Meine Artikel-Serie über Zwergstaaten bzw. kleine Territorien Europas möchte ich mit der Isle of Man vorerst abschließen, die wie Gibraltar auch kein Zwergstaat ist.  Die Isle of Man ist eine Insel in der Irischen See. Sie ist als autonomer Kronbesitz direkt der britischen Krone unterstellt, jedoch weder Teil des Vereinigten Königreichs noch eine Kronkolonie. Sie stellt ein gesondertes Rechtssubjekt dar und ist nicht Teil der Europäischen Union. Diesen Status als autonomer Kronbesitz haben sonst nur noch die Kanalinseln (Jersey, Guernsey u.a.).

Die Isle of Man hat eine Fläche von 572 km² und zählt 84.497 Einwohner. Hauptstadt ist Douglas. In Douglas geboren sind die späteren Bee Gees, die dort bis in die 1950er Jahre lebten (Barry Gibb (* 1946), Maurice Gibb (1949–2003), Robin Gibb (1949–2012).

Staatsoberhaupt ist seit 1765 der britische Monarch, derzeit Königin Elisabeth II.

Die höchste Erhebung beträgt 621 m, der längste Fluss misst 17 km. Die Insel hat eine Küstenlänge von 160 km.

Währung: Isle-of-Man-Pfund und Pfund Sterling.

Entfernungen von der Isle of Man aus: Schottland 29 km, England 48 km, Nordirland 52 km, Wales 71 km, Republik Irland 85 km.

Das 979 gegründete Parlament, der Tynwald, ist das älteste durchgängig bestehende Parlament der Welt, da der seit 930 tagende isländische Althing nicht durchgängig bestanden hat.
