Wann immer ich zur Bibel greife, dann ist allein meine Neugier die treibende Kraft. Die Erzählungen der Bibel sind ja grundsätzlich nicht authentisch und nicht vergleichbar mit einem Geschichtsbuch. Oftmals aber scheint sich ein wahrer Kern in ihnen zu befinden. Manche Personen haben tatsächlich einmal gelebt wie z.B. Pontius Pilatus, andere scheinen reine Erfindungen zu sein. Viele Bibelstellen sind eher langweilig, andere wieder unheimlich spannend, wenn ich z.B. an das Buch Hesekiel denke. Weil dem so ist, suche ich mir die interessanten Stellen immer vor dem Lesen aus. Andere überfliege ich eher und lese sie nicht so aufmerksam. Nur wenige lesen wohl das Buch der Bücher von vorn bis hinten, von der Genesis bis zur Offenbarung des Johannes.

Doch egal, welches Buch der Bibel ich lese, immer wieder kommt es vor, dass ich über unbekannte Begriffe stolpere. Daheim kann ich dann in einem Bibel-Lexikon nachschlagen, das ich auf Reisen aber niemals mitnehme wie auch die Bibel nicht, da es dafür ja gute Apps gibt. Diese unbekannten Begriffe sind oft alte Maßeinheiten, die heute kaum noch jemand kennt. Dafür gibt es im Play Store, wie eigentlich für fast alles, auch mehrere Apps. Ich entschied mich für Biblical Unit Conversion S.E. von XK Software Development. Die hier vorgestellte Version ist für EUR 0,75 erhältlich. Es gibt aber auch eine kostenlose Version mit weniger Maßeinheiten. Anders als in der Special Edition (S.E.) gibt es in der Lite-Version auch keine beschreibenden Erklärungen für die alten Maßeinheiten, die in Englisch abgefasst sind. Neben der Beschreibung finden wir auch ausgewählte Bibelstellen, in denen die betreffende Maßeinheit verwendet wird. Die Maßeinheiten sind in der App wie folgt gegliedert: Length, Weight, Money, Time, Dry Measurements, Liquids und Months. Bei der Umrechnung in heute vertraute Werte kann jeweils eine beliebige Zahl eingesetzt werden. So sind beispielsweise 7 Shekel gleich 588 US Dollars.
